Arenal Volcano Costa Rica

Arenal Volcano, one of the ten most active volcanoes in the world, is a fascinating natural wonder and must visit destination for many travelers to Costa Rica. On almost a daily basis, red-hot rocks crash down its steep slopes and volcanic grumbles produce huge ash columns above the crater.

Monday Day 5

Bungee or ATV in Morning or windsurfing.

For the adventurous thrill-seeker, Costa Rica offers two extreme, adrenaline-pumping bungee jumps. Costa Rica's original bungee jump hot spot, located at the old Colorado River Bridge, has been in business since 1991. The river gorge, at 265 feet high, is one of the tallest bungee bridges in the Americas. Just an hour west of San Jose, the Colorado River bungee jump offers tourists a 200-foot freefall jump over a stunning river gorge. Fly headlong off the bridge, hurtling down toward the rocky river, before springing back, yo-yo style, through a lush, tropical canyon. You won’t have to worry about cars, either: the old bridge has been closed to traffic for years. It was originally chosen as the best spot for bungee jumping in Costa Rica because of its height and scenic beauty.

Tuesday Day 6

Today we travel to Jaco from Lafortuna. Enroute we stop to do some canyoning at a spectacular Waterfalls near to San Ramon. Canyoning, one of the ultimate Costa Rican adventure sports, is the act of traveling down canyons using a variety of techniques including hiking, climbing, jumping and rappelling. In Costa Rica, this usually involves hiking into a secluded rainforest canyon where a series of rappels descend breathtaking waterfalls and scenic trails carry hikers from one rappel to another. The tour starts with a safety talk and practice waterfall, with a descent of 10-15 feet. After getting your feet wet (and whetting your appetite for adventure), you’ll continue on to larger waterfalls, which gradually grow taller and taller until the grand finale cascade, which may reach 200+ feet in height. Often, the tour winds down with a swim at the base of a waterfall followed by a typical Costa Rican lunch.

Cayoning

After lunch we stop and feed the monkeys on the way to Jaco.

Monkeys

Here you see a white faced Capuchin monkey who is taking a piece of banana The monkey stared at the banana from a tree branch, assessed that there was no threat and was there was a friendly offering of food, then the monkey quickly scampered to the end of the branch and quickly reached out to take the banana piece right out of my  hand ; while keeping eye contact the entire time.

Jaco Beach Costa Rica

Jacó (which means "horse", and is known by locals as "The city of surf") is a coastal city in Costa Rica's Puntarenas province, located on the Central Pacific Region, on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. Jacó is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes from San José, and one of it´s closest beaches. It lies between several mountains, and encompasses the beaches of Herradura, Jacó and Hermosa. Jacó is a city booming with tourism, and hosts several restaurants, shops, nightclubs, discos. Surfing draws many people to the beaches, which are known for their consistent 3 to 4 meter surf. Other activities such as canopy, aerial trams, ATV riding, kayaking and scuba diving are offered around the area.

A laidback bustling town, Jaco is one of the most popular Costa Rican beaches. Located in the North of the Puntarenas province along the country’s central Pacific Coast less than 2 hours from San Jose, Jaco has the reputation of being a ‘party beach’ with an excellent nightlife. However, the fun here is casual and relaxed, and the people here are nice and friendly. Catering mostly to a huge number of foreign tourists. One of this town’s major attractions is the fantastic surfing here as the waves are consistently big and the breaks are very good. A yearly international surf contest is also held in the nearby Playa Hermosa that attracts a huge number of surfers from all over the globe to this beach. You need to be careful about swimming here, as riptides are quite common along the beach shore.

While in Jaco we will stay at the beautiful oceanfront hotel.
